Counselling Psychologist & Family Therapist

B. Ed., Grad Dip App Psych., MA (Couns Psych), AHPRA, MAPS, Clinical Member V. A. F. T.

I’m a registered Counselling Psychologist and Family Therapist, and a qualified secondary teacher. I’ve had over 30 years of experience in a variety of settings including education, forensics, counselling, specialist counselling services, and psychiatric settings. I have been fortunate enough to work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. For the past 20 years, I have been working in private practice.

I have a multidisciplinary style of working and believe that liaising with other professionals associated with my clients is of paramount importance. Given the principles under which I work, I change my strategies and therapeutic style to suit each individual client. This incorporates an eclectic approach utilising a variety of techniques including: Psychodynamic and family therapy based approaches including the use of genograms; Cognitive-Behavioural approaches and Mindfulness; psychodrama, role play and play therapy; as well as relaxation techniques.

One of my key focuses is to assist clients to help themselves with a variety of social, interpersonal, family, emotional and behavioural difficulties. My specialty areas are working with the complexities experienced during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, as well as in families and couples. These often incorporate the following issues: Clinical and Situational Depression and Anxiety, as well as mood disorders, grief, loss and trauma; self-harm and suicidality; all forms of abuse; eating disorders; first episode psychosis; addictive behaviours; bullying, peer issues and relationship issues; family breakdown and parenting issues.
